It is important that your goal be specific and measurable but it is also equally important for it to be achievable. Yeah, that’s it. Without mincing words or any unnecessary gainsaying, I’m establishing it here that one characteristic quality every goal must possess is "Achievability".

Achievable goals are goals that have enough capacity of becoming transformed into reality.
They are goals that empowers their custodians to surmount any challenge whatsoever they might encounter on the path to fulfillment of the said goals.
The major reasons why our fantasies, in most cases, don’t ever get the chance to materialize is because they are just that.
Fantasies.
Nothing more.
They are just so outrageous that whenever “we come back to our senses”, and reality sets in, we always realize that most of those couple of wonderful imaginations and fantasies don’t have a place in this material world. What this translates to is that they are out rightly unachievable, given the conditions of time and resources that reality provides.
I remember very clearly my basic chemistry class where we learned about the differences between Ideal and Real reactions. The ideal reactions are theoretically correct and in most cases possible only “on paper”. I mean they are those reactions which have theoretical accuracy but not necessarily feasible in the real world setting. Real reactions on the other hand, can be carried out, given adequate laboratory conditions.
That’s the major difference. Fantasies and goals operate in a similar manner.
While fantasies are only possible in “dream land”, goals find their place in the “real world”.
Let’s pause here a bit and consider this twist. One way for your goals to become realities is if you will be able to follow them through thick and thin, ups and downs until they become realities. They must spur enough passion and determination in you for them to result to great successes.
I will be expatiating more on that later on but the bottom line is that it’s only the goals that have the achievability quality that will spur such an amount of resilience and determination from you.
What then are achievable goals?
What are the things or factors that makes goals achievable?
Achievable goals are goals that set within your reality sphere.
Your reality sphere is your broad spectrum of possibility. It is the combination of those things that you believe to be possible.
Though it is an undisputable fact that the spiritual controls the physical, (you can check my book, The Silent Portal for a great insight on that) but I will like to state here that how much of the spiritual you can translate to the physical depends largely on your reality sphere.
Your reality sphere is broadly categorized into two major parts:
Faith
Experience
The reality sphere connects with both the spiritual and the physical realm with faith and experience respectively. As a Christian, with faith you connect with the possibilities and the realities in the spiritual realm. You believe and accept God’s divine existence, experience His divine power and enjoy His wonderful fellowship. With faith, you receive the gift of salvation; (which is the heavenly passport John 3:3, 5)
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
With faith, you tap into your son ship rights and privileges; (John 1:12)
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.
With faith, you have dominion over forces of darkness and you have hope of eternal life in Christ. These and many more are the spiritual realities that your faith exposes you to.
But the unfortunate thing is that these things are not realities in the lives of countless number of people.
As far as they are concerned, there is no God existing anywhere, you don’t even need salvation to live the “okay life”, things just happen without any particular metaphysical influence and it is outrageous to even think that this world will end one day talk less of talking about eternity in either heaven or hell.
Why is that so?
The answer is quite simple.
They have darkened spiritual perception about such eternal truths or better put, their reality sphere cannot accommodate that yet. It is still not one of those things they have come to realize and believe to be possible.
Can you see the picture I’m painting about the reality sphere clearly now?
Even among Christians, the level of spiritual exposure we get differs. Some believe God is powerful to heal the sick but raising the dead is way too much to accept. Some believe that God can provide for their needs but the miracle of feeding five thousands with five loaves sounds rather outrageous for them to believe.
Your faith is the measure of “how wide” your reality sphere is.
You need to realize that this sphere is expandable. As your faith grows, your reality sphere becomes wider and what comes off as being possible to you increases.
That settled, how does experience come into the picture?
Your experience is the part of the reality sphere that has to do with the physical realm. It is a function of the environment, exposure, training (formal and informal), testimonies and witnesses.
What you believe to be possible physically in most cases is as a result of any of those aforementioned.
I mean most of your beliefs, values and ethics are all as a result of either what you experienced firsthand or what reports or testimonies you heard from people you trust. Therefore your reality sphere plays duan important role in transforming your goals to success.
This means that when you set your goals within your reality sphere, those goals come off as being possible, or achievable, to you. You belief in their becoming realities and you are equipped with enough strength to push through even in days when it seems as if things are not going as planned.
.
In the remaining part of this series I will be sharing some real world examples about the inevitability of an understanding of your reality sphere in goal setting and goals achievement.
Remember, information is useless until it become internalized and developed into a base of knowledge.
I congratulate you as you are on way to becoming a better you!
Cheers!
