There’s one universal truth about writing: “It is both a scientific and an artistic endeavor.”

Writing is a science because there are systematic methods that you can adopt to improve your writing skills and which will transform you into a professional writer in whatever aspect of writing you find yourself whether story writing, scriptwriting, copywriting, etc., these basic rules or methodologies can be adopted and learned to improve your writing skills.

Writing is also an art, and most people will definitely attest to that, because it is an expression of individual creativity; it gives color to the picture that your mind draws; it is a way to express yourself in words beyond your wildest imagination; simply put, writing is life!

We live in a world where people are becoming very sensitive to the kind of information that is passed across to them especially in the written form, so care must be taken in selecting the approach, the style, the methodology that you adopt in passing your message so that your audience will get the totality of the message you are passing across to them: the idea, the mood, the setting, the lesson and any other ingredient that is present in your writing. Believe me, that’s the number one quality (and certainly the most important quality) of Masterpiece Writings.

Here comes the remaining five secrets of turning your writing into a masterpiece.

Cheers!

6. WRITE TO YOUR AUDIENCE

One of the things that having a well-defined goal will do for you is that it will help you narrow down on the kind of audience your write up will be for. Every writer has their audience and the first step in becoming a professional writer is finding yours.

Your audience have unique distinguishing qualities that you must discover. There is a type of writing style, approach, setting, constructions and illustrations that resonates deeply with your audience. What will determine the acceptance level of your works by your audience is your ability to creatively write constructions that meets their specific needs.

You don’t want to joke with your continuous relevance in your audience circle, and what can help you seal your place in their hearts every time is when there is a vivid connection between your writings and their demands. This might require you to do some background research but I am quite confident that this is not too much of a sacrifice to pay for the anticipated return.

7. NEVER SETTLE FOR THE FIRST DRAFT

No matter how much you put into it, your first draft can never be your best offer.

That is one truth that professional writers all over the world attest to. There is no doubt that a lot of mental commitment goes into the first draft but from experience, I have discovered that it is not always enough. Although the amount of time and work you will do on your first draft may vary depending on your level of professionalism, but one truth that stands sure is that every first draft that will end up becoming a masterpiece needs to undergo certain polishing and refining so that the true worth of such writings can become evident.

8. DO SOME REAL PROOFREADING

Proofreading is one of the few potent tools that will transform your draft into a masterpiece. Like someone putsit, “proofreading is important so that there will not be any reason to proof anything to those that will be reading your work.” This may sound funny but there are lots of truths in that satement. When you write and you publish your writing, you give it some wings and the permission to fly as wide as possible even to places you might not have been and may never get to in your lifetime.

Proofreading makes your work “audience-ready”. It empowers the writer and gives the much needed confidence to want to push the work out to the ever ready audience. Proofreading exposes to you certain grammatical blunders and aberrations that you may not have discovered otherwise. It runs a searchlight or spotlight on your work exposing every word that makes up the sentences in your paragraphs. It checks for logical relationships between the topic, theme, delivery-style, and illustrations used in the work.

Proofreading is not a process that needs to be rushed. That is one mistakes most new writers make. When you realize that all the time you have put into coming up with your draft can become waste if thio is not judiciously done, then you will accord the required importance this process deserves to it.

9. GET AN EDITOR

Now this is the part that most people may want to shy away from. The reason is because it involves getting some premium assistance. The truth is if you are sincere with yourself, you will know that the making of stars is not always a cost-free process. Most times things that don’t cost us some things don’t enjoy much commitment from us as compared to those things we get at a premium. It is a natural law of life, writing masterpieces is not just a fantasy to you but a writing goal that resonates deep within you then you can’t shy away from getting the assistance of a professional editor.

The need for the editor cannot be overemphasized. It is simply allowing someone else look at your work from other angles and perspective you might not have paid due attention to, especially someone who is a professional and qualified to do that. This is like adding an icing on the cake for you. It gives you some mental boost and the value or worth of your writing naturally increases. This is because you are no longer viewing your work as just some crude creative composition, but a refined work of art that has every ingredient necessary to enjoy maximum acceptance from your defined audience.

Although getting an editor for your work does not immune it against various criticisms from critics that lurk around but what I can confidently tell you is that it increases the chances of your work becoming accepted by your audience. Moreover, it is also an opportunity for you to learn and grow until you become an editor that other people contract at a premium yourself.

10. WRITE WITH AUTHORITY

The final secret I will be sharing with you is the indispensability of writing with authority. This simply means being sure of what you want to write about and transferring that assurance into your writing without sounding unnecessarily condescending or overconfident. especially when the writing involves sharing a thought about a particular topic or case study, your audience wants to be sure that you are sure of yourself and te claims you put forward in your writing before they will ever buy into it.

You don’t want to sound unsure in your writing, it quickly turns down the mood and adversely affects the reception of your work. When you’re sure of the argument you propose, that assurance adds a level of authority and authenticity to your work and that presents you as a thought leader in that particular field to your audience.

It is true that you may never be a master at every field of thought, that’s why it is important for you to carve out a niche for yourself and learn as much as possible about the niche. Let your writings be an ovrflow from the wealth of knowledge you have gathered by experience and you will not just w with authority but your work will be laced with authenticity.

So, finally we are here. The ten secrets are no longer secrets. They are now powerful weapons in your arsenal. They are now wonderful creative resources that you can fall back on any time, any day. But you know that a weapon is useless if not wielded as at when due. The secrets I have shared with you may amount to nothing if you don’t take conscious effort to apply them.

You will believe with me that these secrets are foolproof and are easy to learn, adopt and use as you continue to strive for growth in your journey to becoming a Masterpiece writer.

I wish you all the best on that journey and I hope to one of your masterpieces soonest.

Warmest regards,

Your companion in success,

Segun Ogunsunlade.
