"In two paragraphs and not more than sixty words, describe yourself."
Imagine you were given the task above and you are to turn in your response in five (5) minutes, will you be up for the task?
I remember the first group of people I asked that question, one of them responded that he has a lot to say about himself that sixty words and two paragraphs will definitely not contain. I smiled and told him to write as much as sixty words and two paragraphs can contain.
The group had ten (10) minutes to turn in their individual response and while some tried to scribble some things down on their sheet, this young man somewhat surprisingly couldn't write a single word in all the ten minutes of the task.
Well, I wasn't all that surprised, in fact, a part of me anticipated that.
Why, you may ask?
Not because of the saying that empty barrels make the loudest noise, but the simple answer is that not many people actually KNOW themselves enough to be able to DEFINE who they really are.
If you contest the validity of that assertion and I challenge you to take a pause now, pick a pen and a sheet and try that task.
If you are able to do it, and you're pleased and proud of what you have written down, fantastic. Please keep that sheet till the end of this course and we will see if there'll be need for changes to what you have written or not.
But if you can't, don't crucify yourself yet. I was once in your shoes as well and by following the principles I'm about to share with you in this course, I gained an understanding of who I truly am and that understanding has been the bedrock of all the strides I have achieved from thenceforth. I am sure that by the end of this course, writing it will be a piece of cake to you.
You may wonder why this is so important, but when you are able to discover who you truly are, writing this two-paragraphed statement from that understanding is the same as writing your life's mission statement- The Summary of what you are here to do. That, my dear, is your Purpose.
